Am sorry to say but the inhumanity and duplicity within these comments - the complete travesty and perversion of truth - is sickening when Israel’s crimes against humanity, its dehumanization of human beings, its slaughter of little children, their mothers and fathers, its grotesque rape of men, of boys, of girls and of women in concentration camps, its deliberate creation of famine, of ethnic cleansing, of genocide has exposed the entire world to the revolting truth of Israel and what is at the core of its existence - hatred, thedt, murder with the US providing it with the latest technology to inflict the worst possible damage upon flesh and blood of human beings. The casual discussion of using landmines is deplorable.

I think you have drunk deeply from the waters of hate. Israel is a country made up of human beings who do right and also do wrong, but such cartoonish evil as you describe cannot exist in the real world.

Israel has shown its true colours - it is appallingly cruel and I am afraid that the original post to which I responded demonstrates willful denial of the horrifying truth or else one has been indoctrinated for decades, to believe that it is a benevolent entity. Any entity whose government glories in the slaughter, maiming, dismemberment, denial of basic water and food to little children, instead blowing up their schools where they and their families have retreated to for a modicum of sanctuary, is beyond redemption. And the entire world has seen the mask slip - there are many Israelis who demonstrate against this Holocaust, this extermination of Palestinians, but most of the population’s background is built on hatred and mental illness called psychopathy, basically a Cult built on eradication of other human beings and on covetousness of what does not belong to them. Those Israelis who stand up for justice are battered and attacked by brainwashed fundamentalist radicals. This is not hatred, this is just stating facts. And I and many others, can plainly see that this colonial, imperialistic, apartheid mentality will only lead to the destruction of this entire planet where all beauty and joy has been snuffed out. It is despicable. And I come from a country - Ireland - which experienced such degradation and dehumanization for hundreds of years. And that Israel entity is trying to spread such a dystopian mindset around the world. Not once has there been an iota or compassion shown by the so called ‘leaders’ of Israel. Please do not state that I am filled with hatred when the hatred is demonstrated every day by that imperialist outpost of the US, the dying gasps of a dinosaur that belongs in the swamps of time, is there for all of those who have eyes to see, ears to hear and a voice that screams ‘NO MORE’!

That which you accuse me of, is instead clearly shown by the comments made by you Shlomo - am afraid the only one drinking from the cup of hatred is yourself for there is NO justification whatsoever for the hideous crimes against humanity which have been perpetrated by compromised, ruthless and soulless Israelis, their brainwashed Christian Zionists and Zionists in the US and by politician puppets of the US and their allies. It is reprehensible to condone, or worse, to applaud human suffering or to try to justify it — and to evade the truth. It is obnoxious. The only reason this is being done is to take the lands belonging to others using any old hackneyed and untrue statements at all using clearly false obfuscation and lies and a perverted ideology of apartheid, imperialism and self-delusion. And also with the ulterior motive of plundering the entire planet. Israel has exposed itself for what it is and for anyone to condone or to sanction utter cruelty and sadism towards children is just a shadow of no substance walking upon the Earth, meaningless, soulless, inhuman, like a sulphuric mist that emanates pure and utter evil. And anyone who is not compromised or who is not benefiting from such maniacal destruction of other people and their lands, would fully agree. And do. And there is nothing ‘cartoonish’ about murder of little children or the starvation of an entire people.

I think of the deterrence this technology may have provided those 1,200+ CIVILIANS on October 7, 2023.

As long as there are barbarians like Putin, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iranian Mullahs, there needs to be some means to defend a country’s borders, and DETER them is a “passive” way, we need these terrible weapons. With today’s technology, we can switch them off and on, and terminally deactivate/self destruct each weapon at will. I largely agree philosophically with the writer, but reality speaks LOUD and CLEAR. 😿

Thanks for your note. Regarding Hamas, let me just mention Israel is not a part of the Ottawa Convention, and is therefore not treaty bound to give up anti-personnel mines. Unfortunately, though, in order to achieve the goal of deterring a Hamas invasion Israel would have had to use the type of mines that are called ‘persistent’, meaning they don’t automatically disarm at a predetermined future time. This would render whatever area Israel mines more or less permanently unusable. Israel’s military must have taken a look at the very small area available around the Gaza border and decided creating minefields wasn’t the optimal method, and preferred high tech sensors and fences instead. Of course, we see tragically that didn’t work.

One other technical comment. I believe you are suggesting some sort of mines that remain active indefinitely until the military that planted them decides they are no longer necessary and gives a command for them to disarm. Of course, that would be ideal. But as far as I know such mines do not exist, and non-persistent mines disarm via an internal fuse or other mechanism set before they are deployed, not a command given at a later time. The reason is that if there was a way to remotely disarm the mines, there is a very real fear that the enemy would find a way to do that and render the minefield useless just before it wants to cross. I don’t believe anyone has created a failsafe way to create a remote disarm system (at the very least it would be vulnerable to spies stealing the secret disarm code) and so to the best of my knowledge such mines do not exist.
