Introducing Shalzed Chazak
On the other edge of the Milky Way is a civilization far more advanced than ours. They have harnessed nuclear fusion to provide endless energy, built massive spaceships to explore nearby planets, and found a way to modulate micro- black holes to record music with gravitational waves. Their species has been unified planet-wide from the start, with no countries, races, or religions, so their society has always been peaceful and just.
One of their leading scientists, named Shalzed Chazak, was on the verge of developing an operational wormhole that would allow transit to any part of the universe. But unfortunately, during the course of a particularly daring final experiment, the exotic matter injector failed to calibrate with the wormhole’s causality regulator and stabilizing ring, sending Shalzed through the wormhole and by complete chance depositing him on Earth.
When Shalzed realized that our primitive technology has yet to produce a functioning intergalactic beacon array, let alone the chronosynaptic processors that are at the heart of any wormhole apparatus, he despaired of constructing anything he could use to transport himself back. While he waits to see whether colleagues on his planet come to his rescue, Shalzed set about doing what he could to make our world a more just and peaceful place like his home.
At first he turned to his knowledge of advanced technology. He found material to build a rudimentary combustion purge disruptor, which his planet uses to eliminate pollution. With it Shalzed vaporized gas guzzling cars as they sat idling in traffic emitting gases that contribute to climate change. He constructed a dynamic wave augmentor and used it to flood United Nations headquarters when in a sea of finger-pointing and political posturing the UN failed to take action to stop a war.
But he watched sadly as this accomplished nothing. Vehicles Shalzed destroyed were replaced by even larger SUV’s that burned more gas. The UN was rebuilt and continued as dysfunctional as before. And Shalzed wound up despised by the very earthlings he was trying to help.
So Shalzed decided to try something different. To talk with humans whose conduct, policies, or opinions would never be tolerated on his planet. To listen and try to understand.
Patience has never been his strong point, and when someone lies or makes excuses he says so right away. He considers the Universal Declaration of Human Rights a good starting point for our planet, and often wishes he could hurl people who don’t uphold it into the zero-point laundry vortex he has back home so they would come out nicely folded with all their atoms rearranged.
But Shalzed continues to learn more about Earth and its problems. He uncovers why basic, universal rights are so much more difficult to implement here than on the other side of the Milky Way. And more than anything, Shalzed hopes that sharing the discussions he has while he’s here can somehow help.
